Excellent Kamado

Outstanding fit and finish cooks like a champ, setting temp from 200° F to 750°F with vents is amazingly simple

Grill or Time Capsule?

This is flat out the very best charcoal grill on the market. The design includes perfect air control, so you can tune your temp precisely. It’s constructed out of solid aluminum and stainless steel, so there’s nothing to corrode. It’s literally going to outlive me. I’m not sure if I want to fill it with mementos before I die or have my ashes put inside! I know it’s expensive, but it’s the last grill you’ll ever want or need to buy.

This has not disappointed

This is a heavy grill, not something I'm going to be moving around. That said, with this much mass, once it heats up, it's going to stay there. I can dial temps in to pretty much exactly what I need from 180 - 600 degrees and hold it there. I'm still learning, but definitely getting with each use. No failures, just refining techniques. There is a learning curve to cooking with this, it is not a weber kettle. It takes time to heat up. It takes time to cool down. The grates are heavy, they will last forever. No warping, even on the fire grate (bottom). The outside does get hot, as some have commented about. So does my oven in the house when I'm baking, what else would you expect? This grill has met every expectation, and then some. My grandkids will fight over who gets this thing when I'm gone.

Not for everyone but for those that appreciate durability and quality it is perfect

I researched and drooled over kamado style grills for years. I was concerned because accidents happen, thermal shock happens, life happens. Ceramic grills are great but they do crack. Knowing my family lifestyle and how things can get broken I wanted something that would last. When I found the Blaze Kamado I initially passed it over due to it being less well known. But it kept drawing me back. Now that I own one I am in love. Having used other kamados in the past I knew how they work etc. Heat management can be a challenge if you are not willing to step back and let it stabilize. That is true with all grills, smokers, or kamados. Constantly changing the vent openings or opening the lid will leave you frustrated and chasing the temp. Be willing to set it, and leave it for a few minutes before touching it again. Make small changes. Once it heats up, opening the lid will cause the temp to go down and then up a bit after the lid is closed again as fresh O2 causes the fire to heat up. Don't change the settings right away. Let the thermal mass of the kamado work for you. The only negative of the Blaze design I have found so far is the vent opens straight up which means rain can get in. A piece of steel heating duct elbow fit perfectly blocking the rain and diverting the smoke away from me when standing near the front. Positives? Great design, solid construction, well thought out features like the hinged grate. The studs for supporting grates are perfectly placed. I use the top ones for grilling and the bottom set for smoking. I love the ash pan design. It is so much better than others I looked at. I wipe down the fire box into the pan, pull it, dump, then clean what little gets around the edges, reinsert and you are ready to go. Would I buy it again in the future? in a heartbeat. Will I recommend this to everyone? No. because not everyone is willing to spend a little more for key features like durability. They will buy green or red because thats what their friends have. Its a status symbol and kind of like the old truck debate. Ford and Chevy drivers argue about which ones are best based on looks, comfort, leather seats etc. People that use their trucks as trucks buy Ram. ;-).
