Two-Element Infrared Heat for Higher Patio Ceilings

The IR Energy mWAVE 3600W is a two-element electric infrared heater for walls, ceilings or chain mounting, outdoors or in. Like every mWAVE it warms people instead of air, but its second element and longer housing let it do that from higher up. It suits tall pergolas, lanais, restaurant patios and workshops, and comes in a Smart version you control from your phone or a Pro version that wires to your own controls.

Covers About 340 to 485 Square Feet

IR Energy designs the 3600W for 9 to 13 feet. At 9 feet it covers roughly 19 by 18 feet, and at 13 feet about 22 by 22 feet, warmest directly below. Mounted lower than 9 feet it can feel too intense underneath, which is when the 2500W is the better pick.

Smart for Phones, Pro for Wall Switches

Smart includes Wi-Fi, a remote, five heat levels, a timer of up to nine hours, app schedules and zones, and Alexa or Google Home. Pro has none of those and is slightly shorter; it wires to a line-voltage thermostat, a timer switch, an occupancy sensor or a building system, which is handy for a restaurant patio on a fixed schedule. A Pro runs at full output unless you add IR Energy's factory control.

More Warmth, Same Gentle Glow

The woven carbon elements glow a warm orange with less glare than short-wave and no harsh light or hot spots, so a long outdoor dinner stays comfortable to look at. The housing is IP65 rated, and IR Energy rates the mWAVE at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing.

Best for Tall Covers and Long Tables

IR Energy recommends this size for covered patios, workshops, studios and retail spaces with 10 to 12 foot ceilings. For a long dining area, run several 3600W heaters together, grouped in the app or wired to one control rated for the combined load.

Give Each Heater Its Own Circuit

Both voltages put out the same heat. Each heater needs a dedicated hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its draw, which is a 20-amp circuit at 240 volts. Mount it at least 8 feet up, follow the manual for clearances, and if you hang it, use chains and anchors rated for its weight. The mWAVE is built in North America, and IR Energy warrants its components for 12 months.
