IR Energy mWAVE Medium-Wave Infrared Electric Heaters

mWAVE is the electric infrared heater series from IR Energy, built to mount on a wall, under a ceiling or on chains. Its woven carbon element sends medium-wave infrared straight to the people and furniture in front of it rather than heating the air, so warmth reaches your seating within seconds and a passing breeze does not carry it off. The element glows a soft orange with less glare than a short-wave heater, which keeps an evening patio feeling relaxed instead of floodlit.

Two Ways to Control It: Smart and Pro

IR Energy mWAVE Smart infrared electric heater with Wi-Fi control

mWAVE Smart is the version for people who want to adjust the heat themselves. It pairs with the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, ships with a handheld remote, and works with Alexa and Google Home. You get five heat levels, a shutoff timer, schedules, and zones that group several Smart heaters together.

IR Energy mWAVE Pro infrared electric heater for hardwired controls

mWAVE Pro leaves out the Wi-Fi and the remote. It wires to a line-voltage thermostat, a timer switch, an occupancy sensor or a building control system, the usual setup for restaurant patios and commercial terraces, so staff never have to hunt for a remote. A Pro runs at full output unless it is paired with IR Energy's factory-supplied control.

Choosing a Size by Mounting Height

With an infrared heater, how high it hangs matters more than how big the space looks. IR Energy designs every mWAVE size for its own mounting-height range. The smallest model runs on a standard household circuit and suits a low patio cover, a balcony or a pergola nook. The larger single-element and two-element models run on a higher-voltage circuit and are built to reach seating from tall ceilings, vaulted patio roofs and courtyards. Each product page lists the mounting height and coverage area IR Energy designs it for, and swivel brackets let you angle any model toward where people sit.

Rated for Outdoors, Quiet Enough for Indoors

Every mWAVE housing is IP65 rated against dust and water jets and CSA certified for both indoor and outdoor use, so it can stay mounted outside through the seasons. IR Energy rates the series at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing. There is no fan, so the heat is silent and draft-free, which is why the same heater works over an indoor pool, in a home gym or above a dining room as well as on a patio. What Installation Involves

No mWAVE heater plugs into an outlet. A licensed electrician hardwires each one on its own dedicated circuit, sized at 125% of the heater's draw, and follows the installation manual for clearances at each mounting angle. IR Energy warrants mWAVE components for 12 months. If you would like help working out which size and how many heaters your space needs, our free design service will plan the layout with you.

Frequently Asked Questions about IR Energy mWAVE Infrared Electric Heaters

What is a medium-wave infrared heater?

It is an electric infrared heater whose element runs cooler than a short-wave lamp, so it glows a soft orange with less glare while still warming people and surfaces directly instead of the air. The mWAVE uses a woven carbon element to do this.

What is the difference between mWAVE Smart and mWAVE Pro?

Smart models connect to the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, include a handheld remote, offer five heat levels and a shutoff timer, and work with Alexa and Google Home. Pro models have no Wi-Fi or remote and wire to a line-voltage thermostat, timer switch, occupancy sensor or building system instead.

How high should an mWAVE heater be mounted?

IR Energy designs each size for its own height range, from 8 feet for the 120-volt model up to 14 feet for the largest two-element model. Check the mounting height on the product page and choose the size that matches your ceiling or pergola.

Do mWAVE heaters need an electrician?

Yes. None of them plug in. Each heater is hardwired by a licensed electrician on a dedicated circuit sized at 125% of its draw, following the clearances in the installation manual.

Can an mWAVE heater stay outside all year?

Yes. The housing is IP65 rated against dust and water jets, and the series is CSA certified for both indoor and outdoor use, so it can stay mounted on a patio, balcony or pergola year round.

Do mWAVE Smart heaters work with Alexa or Google Home?

Yes. Once the heater is paired with the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, you can control it by voice through Alexa or Google Home, as well as from the app and the included remote.
