Can the phantomSchwank run on propane?

Yes, with a conversion kit. It ships set up for natural gas, and Schwank makes a field conversion kit for each model. The kit has to match the heater's BTU rating, so the 50,000, 80,000 and 115,000 BTU models each take a different one.

Does the phantomSchwank need electricity?

Yes. Each heater needs a grounded 120V, 60Hz supply sized for 145VA, which powers the blower, the spark ignition and the wireless controls. Plan the electrical run to the mounting location alongside the gas line.

Can I install the phantomSchwank on a covered patio?

Yes, as long as it still counts as outdoors under Schwank's definition. Any of these qualifies: walls on every side but no roof; a roof with no more than two side walls; or a roof with three side walls, as long as at least 30 percent of the perimeter stays permanently open. Enclose it more than that and it no longer qualifies as an outdoor installation. It is not approved for installation inside a home.

What is the difference between the two 12 foot phantomSchwank models?

Heat output. Both are 12 feet long, but the 80,000 BTU model runs 80,000 on high and 60,000 on low, against 50,000 and 35,000 on the 50,000 BTU model. Schwank rates the 80,000 for about 300 square feet instead of about 200. It also needs more room beneath it: 62 inches of clearance to combustibles instead of 42 when hung level.

How much clearance does the phantomSchwank need?

The most is below it. Hung level, Schwank calls for 42 inches beneath the 50,000 BTU model, 62 inches beneath the 80,000 and 74 inches beneath the 115,000, measured from the reflector. It needs 4 to 5 inches above, 20 to 26 inches at the sides, 24 inches at the burner end and 48 inches at the tube end. The spec sheet on this page gives the figures for angled mounting.

How do the phantomSchwank smart controls work?

The heater connects to your Wi-Fi and runs from an app or a web browser. You can switch it on and off, change between high and low, set weekly schedules, and group several heaters into zones that run independently. It also works with Google smart devices and Schwank.ONE.
