Description

An Infrared Patio Heater for 8 to 10 Foot Ceilings

The IR Energy mWAVE 2500W is an electric infrared heater that mounts on a wall, under a patio cover or on chains. It warms people directly rather than the air, so the heat stays put on a breezy evening under a pergola or a porch roof. It is sized for the ceiling height most covered patios have, and you choose how to run it: a Smart version with an app and remote, or a Pro version that wires to a switch or thermostat.

Covers About 270 to 305 Square Feet

IR Energy designs the 2500W for 8 to 10 feet. At 8 feet it covers roughly 17 by 16 feet, and at 10 feet about 18 by 17 feet. That is the area getting IR Energy's minimum comfort level of radiant heat, warmest right underneath. It is a good match for an outdoor dining table or a sectional under a cover.

Smart for Phones, Pro for Wall Switches

IR Energy Authorized Dealer

The Smart version includes Wi-Fi and a remote: five heat levels, a timer of up to nine hours, app schedules and zones through Tuya Smart or Smart Life, and Alexa or Google Home. The Pro version skips all of that and is a few inches shorter. It wires to a line-voltage thermostat (one made for electric heaters), a timer switch, an occupancy sensor or a building system. A Pro runs at full output unless you add IR Energy's factory control.

A Soft Glow That Keeps the Mood

Its woven carbon element gives off a warm orange glow with less glare than a short-wave heater and no harsh light or hot spots, so dinner outside still feels like dinner. The IP65 housing is sealed against dust and water jets, and IR Energy rates the mWAVE at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing.

Who the 2500W Suits

IR Energy recommends this size for covered patios, restaurant patios and garages. Homeowners usually pick Smart for the remote and app. Restaurants and anyone who wants the heater tied to a wall switch or timer usually pick Pro.

Match the Voltage to Your Panel

The 208V and 240V versions put out the same heat, so choose the one that matches your power. Each heater needs its own hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its draw; the 240V version draws 10.4 amps, so it needs at least a 15-amp circuit. Mount it at least 8 feet up and follow the manual for clearances. The mWAVE is built in North America, and IR Energy warrants its components for 12 months.

Features

  • Smart: five heat levels from about a third to full power, a timer up to 9 hours, and a remote with about 16 feet of range
  • Smart: Tuya Smart or Smart Life app with schedules and zones, plus Alexa and Google Home (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi)
  • Pro: no Wi-Fi or remote; wires to a line-voltage thermostat, timer switch, occupancy sensor or building system
  • Pro: lower heat levels need IR Energy's factory-supplied control
  • Tilting brackets aim heat at seating: up to 67.5° on a wall, 45° on a ceiling, 30° on chains
  • Heat felt within seconds, silently, with no blower

IR Energy mWAVE 2500W Wall/Ceiling Mounted Medium Wave Electric Heater FAQ's

Which is better for a home patio, Smart or Pro?

Most homeowners choose Smart, because the remote, app and voice control come built in. Pro makes more sense when you want the heater on a wall switch, a timer or a building control system, as many restaurants do.

How many square feet does the mWAVE 2500W heat?

About 270 square feet (17 by 16 feet) mounted at 8 feet, and about 305 square feet (18 by 17 feet) at 10 feet.

Do I need 208V or 240V?

Most homes have 240 volts and many commercial buildings have 208 volts. Both versions give the same heat; ask your electrician which you have.

What breaker does it need?

A dedicated hardwired circuit sized at 125% of the heater's draw. The 240V version draws 10.4 amps, so it needs at least a 15-amp circuit; the 208V version draws 12 amps and needs its own dedicated 208V circuit of at least 15 amps.

Can I control the Pro version with a smart thermostat?

Yes, but only a line-voltage smart thermostat designed for electric heaters. A standard 24V furnace thermostat will damage both the thermostat and the heater circuit, according to IR Energy.

When should I step up to the 3600W?

When your patio cover is 10 feet or higher, or you want to warm a bigger area. The 3600W uses two elements and is designed for 9 to 13 feet.
